Robert Downey Jr. is an American actor and singer from Manhattan, New York. His parents were both actors during his childhood. Robert started acting as a young child. Early Life

Robert Downey Jr. was born in Manhattan, New York on the 4th of April, 1965. His parents both worked as actors during his childhood. He is the son of the avant-garde filmmaker Robert Downey Sr.

Downey started acting at the age of 5. His mother, Elise, was an actress just like his father, who instilled in her son a love of performing. Raised in Greenwich Village. Robert grew up with his older sister, Allison. After his debut appearance in Pound, he acted in several more of his father’s movies.

Downey decided to move with his father to Los Angeles after his parents divorced. When he turned 16, he dropped out of high school and decided to relocate to New York to live with his mother.

Downey has been having many problems with his substance abuse, including alcohol and drugs. He got introduced to drugs at the age of eight by his father, who also was a drug addict. Later on his 20’s he started to get a full-fledged addiction. Robert Downey Jr arrested several times and went to jail once for his drug addiction.

Career

Downey had a number of roles in theatre before landing a job as part of the new, younger, cast hired for “Saturday Night Live”. In 1992, he starred as Charlie Chaplin in “Chaplin”  and nominated for the Best Actor Oscar for his role in “Chaplin.”

It was not easy for Downey to restart his career once he finally beat his drug demons. He didn’t get hired because the insurance companies used by productions assigned too high a price to Downey and filmmakers refused to pay for Downey. Finally, Mel Gibson, who had been Downey’s friend since “Air America,” who made the second half of Downey’s career possible. He paid Downey’s insurance bond personally for “The Singing Detective”. When Downey successfully completed the film with no issues, other filmmakers were ready to hire him again.

Then, in 2007, he landed the role of a lifetime when he acted as Tony Stark in “Iron Man.” The first Iron Man film came out in the Spring of 2008.   Critically praised for his performance in Iron Man, Robert was ecstatic. He also appeared as Tony Stark in the two “Iron Man” sequels in 2010 and 2013, as well as 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk,”  2015’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War,” 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” and 2020’s “Black Widow.”
