David was born on July 2, 1947, in the neighborhood of Sheepshead Bay, in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. David’s father Mortimer Julius David moved from Germany to the US

during the 19th century. While his mother Rose was from Ukraine. He has an older brother and his family is Jewish. David studied at Sheepshead Bay High School. He graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a bachelor’s degree in history. During his bachelor’s David got to know of his potential of making people laugh. Career

David attended acting classes in Manhattan. His debut performance was at Folk City in Greenwich Village in 1974. He worked as a writer and cast member on the ABC sketch show “Fridays”. David acted in films such as ‘Second Thoughts’ and ‘Can She Bake a Cherry Pie?” in 1983. Though the roles were small, they helped him gain recognition. He also wrote for “Saturday Night Live” as a writer. David left the show sometime later and started performing as a stand-up comedian again. He also wrote one episode for a television film titled ‘Norman’s Corner.’
