Khabib Nurmagomedov was born on 20 September 1988, in Russia. He was born to Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. Khabib has an older brother named Mohamed and a younger sister Amina.

He started training at a young age. In 2001, the family moved to Makhachkala. Here, he started training in wrestling and when he turned 15, he began classes in judo.  He initially felt that the shift from wrestling to judo was difficult. But his father felt it was important that he learn to compete in a gi jacket. Upon turning 17, his father began training him in sambo. Sometime later, his family shifted to Kiev in Ukraine where he continued his training.

Career

In September 2008, Khabib Nurmagomedov made his debut in MMA. Within a month, he had four wins, of which three were in a day. The following month, he won the Atrium Cup tournament championship in Moscow. Over the next 3 years, he would go undefeated, defeating 11 out of 12 opponents along the way. Two years later, he went on to fight for the ProFC promotion. The same year he fought in seven fights, of which he won every match.
